Welcome to Zanzibar
Zanzibar Island (often simply called Zanzibar) is one of the most iconic travel destinations in Tanzania. This tropical archipelago blends pristine beaches, rich history, vibrant culture, and world-class marine life into a paradise suited for beach lovers, culture seekers, and adventure travelers alike.
Located off the coast of mainland Tanzania in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Zanzibar is best known for its UNESCO World Heritage Site — Stone Town, spices, coral-fringed beaches, and relaxed island life. Its blend of African, Arab, Indian, and European influences gives it a unique cultural heartbeat that resonates through its food, architecture, and traditions.
Getting there
Zanzibar is easily accessible from mainland Tanzania:
- By Air: Direct flights arrive at Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ) from Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, Doha, and other international hubs.
- By Ferry: High-speed ferries connect Dar es Salaam to Stone Town in about 1.5–2 hours.
Best Time to Visit
Zanzibar enjoys a tropical climate year-round, but the best months for weather and outdoor activities are:
- June to October – dry season with pleasant temperatures and lower humidity.
- December to March – warmer weather ideal for snorkeling and diving.
- April & May – rainy season, with intermittent heavy showers.
Stone Town
The heart of Zanzibar’s culture and history, Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander narrow alleys lined with carved doors, ancient mosques, busy markets, and historic buildings like the House of Wonders and the Old Fort. The town’s blend of African, Arab, Indian, and European influences tells the story of centuries of spice trade and cultural exchange.
Beaches & Marine Life
Zanzibar’s coastline offers world-class beaches — from the lively sands of Nungwi to the relaxed shores of Jambiani and Paje. Crystal-clear waters are perfect for swimming, sun-soaking, snorkeling, and diving. Coral reefs around Mnemba Atoll and Chumbe Island are teeming with marine life, making them ideal for underwater exploration
